3 The Verb Estar  Estar is an IRREGULAR verb.  It means “to be” in English.

4  It does NOT follow the pattern of REGULAR -AR VERBS.

5 The Verb ESTAR  In writing, be sure to use the accent mark on all forms except the yo and nosotros forms.

6 ESTAR Yoestoy Tú estás Ud. Él está Ella Nosotros estamos Vosotros estáis Uds. Ellos están Ellas

8 Por ejemplo… El libro está en la mesa. Yo estoy en la sala de clase. Ella está hablando (present progressive) Ella está enferma. Ellos están tristes.

9 The Verb Ser  Ser is an IRREGULAR verb.  It ALSO means “to be” in English.

10 SER Yosoy Tú eres Ud. Él es Ella Nosotros somos Vosotros sois Uds. Ellos son Ellas

12 Por ejemplo… Hoy es martes. Ella es profesora. El es antipático y guapo. Son las 4 y cuarto de la tarde. Nosotros somos chilenos. Es mi mochila.

13 ¡OJO!  ESTAR and SER can not be interchangables. The meaning of the sentence will change. It is not the same to say:  Yo estoy loca.  Yo soy loca.
