Present Progressive

When you want to say an action is happening now, use the present progressive. For example: I am eating. She is writing a letter. The teacher is talking. To form this tense, use the formula: ESTAR + “ING” ending of the verb Ex: Yo estoy comiendo. = I am eating. Tú estás bebiendo. = You are drinking.

Don’t forget!!! Present tense of ESTAR: Estoy Estamos Estás Está Están

AR Verbs: hablar  hablando ER Verbs: beber  bebiendo To form the “ING” ending of the verb, drop the ending in the infinitive and add –ando or iendo. AR Verbs: hablar  hablando ER Verbs: beber  bebiendo IR verbs: vivir  viviendo ando -iendo ESTAR I AM WATCHING YOU!

Let’s practice: I am eating. He is washing the dishes. They are studying. We are taking out the trash. Yo estoy comiendo. Él está lavando los platos.. Ellos están estudiando. Nosotros estamos sacando la basura.

**Irregular “ING” Forms: **Some of the verbs you know have irregular “ING” forms:** Leer ____________ The boy is reading. leyendo El chico está leyendo.

More practice! Directions: Rewrite the sentence to tell what the people are doing now! Diana/ comprar ropa Roberto y su hermano / leer una revista Luis / abrir un libro Paco y yo/ pasar un rato con los amigos Tú / bailar con tus amigos Nosotros / leer una novela Diana está comprando ropa. Roberto y su hermano están leyendo una revista. Luis está abriendo un libro. Paco y yo estamos pasando un rato con los amigos. Tú estás bailando con tus amigos. Nosotros estamos leyendo una novela.
