2 When we talk about something that is happening right now, we use a special form called the present progressive

3 Examples: I am running. You are eating lunch. We are studying.

4 You need TWO PARTS: First, you say who IS doing the action  I am…  You are…  He is…  We are…  They are…

5 Second, you say that you are “doing” the action. This is the same as the “-ing” form in English:  eating…  running…  studying…  talking…

6 In Spanish, to say who IS doing the action, use the correct form of the verb ESTAR: estoy estamos estás está están

7  Next, take the main verb, drop the ending, then add:  AR Verbs = -ando  ER/IR Verbs = -iendo Example: Hablar = Hablando Comer = Comiendo

8 What are the –ndo forms of these verbs?  cantar  volver  escribir  aprender  hacer  pensar  ver

9 Now, put estar together with the main verb:  Estoy comiendo almuerzo.  ¿Estás escuchando música?  Ella está estudiando.  La tortuga está caminando.

10 1. I am speaking Spanish. 2. Are you studying? 3. My dad is cooking. 4. We are running. 5. My brothers are eating cake.

11  The Present Progressive is usually used for actions that are in progress. They are happening right now!  Look at the difference: Yo hablo español. Yo estoy hablando español.

12  leer > leyendo  Ir > yendo  oir > oyendo  traer > trayendo  venir > viniendo  decir > diciendo  dormir > durmiendo

13 Nosotros estamos ____ cena. (comer) Mi abuelo está ______. (leer) ¿Qué estás __________? (hacer)

14 1) I am speaking with Mr. Flynn! 2) Why are you running to class? 3) My parents are eating at In-N-Out. 4) My cat is sleeping.

15 1. The mailman is walking. 2. The lawyer is talking. 3. We are writing and speaking. 4. My friends are dancing. 5. The cats are sleeping. 6. The teacher is teaching.

16 Answer: ¿Qué están haciendo las artistas? ¿Qué están haciendo los estudiantes? ¿Qué están haciendo las azafatas? ¿Qué están haciendo las policías? ¿Qué están haciendo los veterinarios? ¿Qué están haciendo los cantantes?

17 TRANSLATE: 1. The artista is painting today. 2. My mom is buying new towels at Kohls. 3. My dad is washing the Windows of the car. 4. My neighbor (vecino) is mowing the lawn. 5. We are straightening up the house.
