MEANING Use this tense to express actions that are happening NOW. It infers an action that is continuously. Only for actions that are/were/will be, actually in progress.

USES To express actions that are happening NOW. Yo estaba llegando a casa. To denote the action is in being repeated over a period of time. ¿Estás escribiendo una novela? The verbs: estar, ser, ir, tener, venir, volver, are not normally used with progressive tense. Ahora viene el amigo tuyo. NEVER use it as future like in English Llegan a las 8.They are arriving at 8.

STRUCTURE Examples: Mi madrastra está hablando en clase. + ESTAR* + Verb –arando (*in any tense) –er/iriendo Examples: Mi madrastra está hablando en clase. Mi madrastra estuvo hablando en clase. Mi madrastra estaba comiendo en la casa. Mi madrastra está comiendo en la casa. Mi madrastra estuvo comiendo en la casa.

2 SPECIAL RULES  + ESTAR* + Verb –arando (*in any tense) –er/iriendo 1. No three (3) vowels in a row unless they have accent mark.
