Ser: the verb to be In English, the verb to be is the most common verb. I am Carlos. We are from Argentina. You are from Managua. You are high school students. He is my classmate. They are my friends. In Spanish ser means to be Ser is the infinitive. Uses of SER Day & Date ¿Qué día es hoy? – What is today's day? Es lunes, martes… – Today is Monday, Tuesday… ¿Qué fecha es hoy? – What is todays date? Hoy es el cuatro de octubre de – Today is the fourth of October Origin ¿De dónde eres tú? – Where are you from? Yo soy de Cedar Park, Tejas. – I am from Cedar Park, Texas. ¿De dónde es Julián? – Where is Julian from? Julián es de Leander, Tejas. – Julian is from Leander, Texas. ¿De dónde son Sara y Mati? – Where are Sara and Mati from? Sara y Mati son de Austin, Tejas. – Sara y Mati are from Austin, Texas.
Uses of SER Time ¿Que hora es? – What time is it? Es la una y veinticinco de la tarde. – It is one twenty-five in the afternoon. Son las cuatro menos diez de la tarde. – It is three forty-five in the afternoon. Es mediodía. – It is noon. Es medianoche. – It is midnight.
Writing Activity, INB pg 39 Write a note to introduce yourself to a pen pal. In the note, state the day of the week, the date, your name, address, and telephone number. Use complete sentences. Remember to begin with a greeting and end with an appropriate closing.
