Los Adjetivos Adjectives

When using adjectives in Spanish… Remember that most adjectives in Spanish are either masculine or feminine, and can be singular or plural…all depending on the noun/nouns being described. Adjectives must always match the noun in gender and number. Some adjectives stay the same for both genders…make sure to watch out for them. (ex: inteligente, deportista, joven, etc.)

To make them a certain gender / number… When an adjective ends in an “o”, you make it feminine by simply removing the ‘o’ which makes it masculine and add an ‘a’ Ex: alto = alta, delgado = delgada To make adjectives plural, simply add an ‘s’ if it ends in a vowel. If it ends in a consonant, add ‘es’.

Examples: gordo = gordos fea = feas inteligente = inteligentes joven = jóvenes

To describe people and physical traits… Rubio (a) Pelirrojo (a) Moreno (a) / Castaño(a) Canoso (a) Calvo Viejo (a) Alto (a) Bajo (a) Gordo (a) Delgado (a) Flaco (a) Bonito (a) Feo (a) Guapo (a) Largo (a) Corto (a) Grande Pequeño (a)

to describe non-physical traits… Atlético (a) / Deportista Aburrido (a) Perezoso (a) Serio (a) Trabajador (a) Paciente Impaciente Inteligente Artístico (a) Estudioso (a) Sociable Reservado (a) Desordenado (a) Ordenado (a) Atrevido (a) Gracioso (a) Viejo (a) Joven
