Affirmative Words Algo = something Tengo algo en mi mochila. Alguien = someone ¿Alguien me escucha?
Affirmative Words *Algún/alguno(a) = some, any Tenemos algunos mensajes. *must agree in # and gender with noun they replace or modify
Ejemplo: You have some folders. Tú tienes algunas carpetas.
Affirmative Words O…O = either…or Quiero ver o SpongeBob o Lost. Siempre = always Mi mamá siempre me ama. También - also, too Mi abuela me ama también.
Negative Words Nada = nothing No tengo nada en mi mochila. Nadie = no one, nobody Nadie me entiende.
Negative Words *Ningún, ninguno(a) = none, not any No me gusta ningún vestido. *Ningún drops the o before a masculine singular noun.
Negative Words Ni…ni = neither…nor Ni Pedro ni Sergio me llama. Nunca = never Nunca hago la tarea.No hago la tarea nunca. *A negative word must come before the verb. Tampoco = neither, not either Tampoco hago la cama.
Ejemplo: I dont have (not) any class. I dont have (not) any class. Yo no tengo ninguna clase.
Ejemplo: We dont need (not) any folders. We dont need (not) any folders. No necesitamos ninguna carpeta.
The double negative is not allowed in English, but it is perfectly acceptable in Spanish.
Ejemplo: Nunca hablas con nadie. You never talk to anybody / anyone.
Remember…. When alguno and ninguno come before a masculine singular noun, drop the -o. I dont have any books. No tengo ningún libro.
Youll notice: in English, books was plural, but in Spanish, it is singular. Why?
Ejemplo: I dont have any books. plural I dont have any books. plural No tengo ningún libro. singular
It is singular in Spanish, because when you dont have a book, you dont have ANY, NOT ONE book.
