Greetings to all of you, beloved brothers and sisters walking one same path. My name is Mira Jempe and here I would like to tell you a little about the preparation required before participating in a healing ceremony. In the year 2008 I began practising with my master, Miguel in the Ecuadorian jungle. After the first year I received permission to conduct ceremonies, and after I also began practising with other masters and I am still practising today to be able to heal one day as an established master (a Uwishin-shaman-curandero). In the healing ceremonies two main Plants are used; tobacco and Natem (Ayahuasca). Tobacco is used at the beginning of the ceremony in liquid form, known as tobacco juice. It is absorbed through the nose. Tobacco is the main plant in healings and in ceremonies it is very important for preparing oneself afterwards for ingesting the Ayahuasca medicine. Tobacco wakes up the five senses, as well as the sixth sense (the subconscious mind) and the seventh sense (the ether). .

Natem is the name of the medicine with which we work in ceremonies and in healing, more commonly known as Ayahuasca. The name Natem comes from the Shuar tradition, and it means "birth-death-rebirth". It is one of few plants which can heal all illnesses, depending on its use and handling, which is why the diet before and after participation is very important in these ceremonies, and also being clear on the purpose with which one comes to take this medicine. Diet and preparation together with the intention with which one comes to take this medicine is highly important because the healing - or the worsening - of the illness or mindset of the person depends on these after leaving the ceremony. The diet should begin one week before the ceremony, if that's not possible, 3 days of diet is also acceptable. One mustn't eat: Garlic, onion, meat (only fish and chicken can be eaten – best if organic), Spicy foods and salty foods (best not to use salt on the day of the ceremony). No eating lots of sweets, chocolates, sugary foods (best o replace sugar with bee honey). No alcohol some days before the ceremony. On the day of the ceremony, no drinking coffee or teas which contain lots of caffeine. This alters the functioning of the cerebral system and doesn't permit one to relax with the effect of the medicine. Sexual abstinence must be maintained some 5 days before the ceremony. On the day of the ceremony its recommended to eat only fruits or very light foods (for example rice), and drink plenty of water. Exercises such as Tai-Chi, Chi Kung or Yoga are recommended, as these improve the circulation of energy in the body and have a calming effect on the mind. Medicines people who are using pills due to heart alteration or high blood pressure – in truth, anybody who has heart problems can't take the medicine in this type of ceremony. These people will require other types of treatments. If somebody is taking antibiotics they must stop taking them some 10 days before the ceremony. The same applies to painkilling medicines, and tablets for all types of depression.

The intention and purpose. In the ceremonies we always have some purpose; a general purpose for all of the group. The purpose depends on the needs, the time, the constellations...etc. Every participant must have a personal purpose; a reason for which they are participating in the ceremony. The purpose defines the direction, the clarity, and strengthens the confidence of the person during the ceremony. El Altar The altar ¿Qué llevar? What to bring? It's recommended to bring a sleeping bag, a light travel mat, maybe a poncho (depending on the location it can be cold during the night). Personal objects which have some special (spiritual) value for a person can be brought, such as crystal amulets, and they can be left on the altar during the ceremony to allow their energy to recharge and purify with the energy of the ceremony. Women can bring flowers to decorate the altar. Participants are also asked to bring some fruits; a little food to share among all in the morning.
