The Divine Judge “judged” by men “His justice was taken away” Acts 8:33

Introduction. Jn 11:47 "What shall we do? 49 You know nothing at all, nor do you consider that it is expedient for us that one man should die for the people, and not that the whole nation should perish.” Already condemned to death!

Therefore, what is to be expected of them when they “judge” Jesus? Will they be just? (Remember that these are the religious leaders of the people of God – the people of Israel, Jews).

I.Arrest of Jesus, Lk 22: With a kiss Judas betrayed Him; they came as against a thief; taught each day in temple; this is your hour and the power of darkness.

II. II. Examined by Annas, Jn 18:12-14, “Asked Jesus about His disciples and His doctrine”, to form an accusa- tion against Him. (Lesson for us – Rom. 2:24; Titus 2:5, 10).

V. 20, "I spoke openly to the world... synagogues … temple”; His doctrine known by all, not to be despised.

Hech 23:3. V. 22, 23, “struck Jesus, Do you answer the High Priest like that? If I have spoken evil, bear witness of the evil; but if well, why do you strike Me?” Acts 23:3.

III. III. Examined by the Council, Lk 22:54, Having arrested Him, they brought Him into the high priest's house. Mk 14:53, “With him were assembled all the chief priests, the elders, and the scribes.”

Lk 22:63-65, “mocked Him and beat Him… blindfolded Him, struck Him on the face and asked Him, saying, Pro- phesy! Who is the one who struck You? Many other things they blasphe- mously spoke against Him.”

Mk 14:55, “all the council sought testimony against Jesus to put Him to death, but found none... their testi- monies did not agree.”

Mk 14:58, “we heard him say: 'I will destroy this temple, and within three days I will build another.' Jn 2:19, “Des- troy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.”

Mat 26:65, “¡Ha blasfemado! Es reo de muerte”. Lk 22:66-71 “Are you the Son of God? And He said to them: You say that I am. 71 Then they said, ¿What further testi- mony do we need?” Mt 26:65, “He has spoken blasphemy, deserves death.”

Mt 26:67, “Then they spat in His face and beat Him with their fists; and others slapped Him”. Remember that this happened in the Sanhedrin, the Council (Supreme Court) of the Jews.

IV. Juzgadle!! … No podemos ejecutarle. IV. The Roman Trial. Jn 18:28, not enter the praetorium lest they be defiled!! If he were not an evildoer, we would not have delivered him to you (condemn with a trial). Judge him! Can’t execute.

Luc 23:1-5. Lk 23:1-5. Many accusations: perverts the nation, forbids paying Roman taxes, says He Himself is king … Are you the King of the Jews? (First words spoken by Pilate to Jesus).

Lk 23:3 "It is as you say.“ Jn 18:34 “Are you speaking for yourself, or did others tell you this about me?” No Roman accused Him. Had He been a threat, Pilate would have known it.

Jn 18:36 “My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, My servants would fight”. King, yes (Mt 21:5), but no threat to Rome (only for Jewish leaders, Jn 12:19).

Jn 18:37 “Yo para esto he nacido, y para esto he venido al mundo, para dar testimonio a la verdad”. Encarnación de la verdad. Afirma su pre-existencia. Jn 18:37 “For this cause I was born, and for this cause I have come into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth.” Incarnation of truth. Affirms His pre-existence.

Lk 23:4 “I find no fault in Him.” Pilate recognized that Jesus was not a criminal in any sense, that He was not a “King” in a political sense.

Mar 15:3 “le acusaban mucho. Le pre- guntó Pilato, ¿Nada respondes? Mira de cuántas cosas te acusan. Pilato se maravillaba”. No vino para defenderse sino para morir por nosotros, Jn 12:24 Mk 15:3, “they accused him of many things. Do You answer nothing? See how many things they testify against You! Pilate marveled. He didn’t come to defend Himself, but to die for us, Jn 12:24

V. Jesús examinado por Herodes, Luc 23:6-12. Pilato oyó “Galilea”, lo envía a Herodes. Acusaban con vehemencia, nada le respondió. Le menospreció, escarneció, le puso ropa espléndida. V. Jesus examined by Herod, Lk 23: Pilate heard “Galilea,” sends Him to Herod. Accused Him vehemently, He answered nothing. Contempt, mocked Him, put a gorgeous robe on Him.

VI. Ante Pilato otra vez, Luc 23:14, “habiéndole interrogado no he hallado delito alguno. 15 Y ni aun Herodes. Le soltaré, pues, después de castigarle”. VI. Before Pilate again, Lk 23:14, “having examined Him, I have found no fault in this Man 15 neither did Herod. I will punish Him and release Him."

17 “it was necessary for him to release one to them at the feast”. Jn 18:39 “Do you want me to release to you the King of the Jews?” Lk 23:18 "Away with this Man, and release to us Barabbas!” V. 25; Acts 3:14 guilty of sedition, murder

Mt 27:18 Pilate “knew that for envy they had delivered Him up. 19 his wife sent to him, saying, "Have nothing to do with that just Man, for I have suffered many things today in a dream because of Him."

Jn 19:7 “He ought to die, because He made Himself the Son of God. When Pilate heard this statement, he was even more afraid; and said, "Where are You from?"

Pilato asustado: 1) Jn 18:37, “he venido al mundo” (preexistencia); 2) Mt 27:19, esposa, “he padecido mucho en sueños por causa de él; 3) Jn 19:7 “se hizo a sí mismo hijo de Dios”. Pilate scared: 1) Jn 18:37 “I have come into the world” (pre-existence); 2) Mt 27:19, wife: “I have suffered many things today in a dream because of him; 3) Jn 19:7 said, “son of God.”

Another scare: Jn 19:12 "If you let this Man go, you are not Caesar's friend. Whoever makes himself a king speaks against Caesar.“ Then the Jews deny God: v. 15 "We have no king but Caesar!"

Lk 23:22 Pilate “said to them the third time: I have found no reason for death in Him. 23 But they were insistent, demanding with loud voices that He be crucified. And the voices of these men prevailed.”

¿Inocente? Mt 27:24 “took water and washed his hands in front of the crowd, saying, "I am innocent of this Man's blood; see to it yourselves.“ Was he innocent?

Lk 23:24 “So Pilate gave sentence that it should be as they requested. 25 And he released (Barrabas) to them, the one they requested, but he delivered Jesus to their will.”

Conclusion. Acts 2:23, “delivered by the determined purpose and foreknow- ledge of God”; but as for the Jews and Romans: “His justice was taken away.”
