Globalization Politics and the preservation of nation state

In today’s world, states are more related with each other than ever because of foreign interests in business and trade, etc. For this to happen, local politics must be involved. The state government and it’s opposition must debate the value of going international before a decision is made to do so. Thus, politics is also not excluded from globalization. Nowadays, states are being involved more & more in international dialogues and agreements. Decisions are made and treaties are signed. Bilateral and multilateral forums are the order of the day.

It is practically impossible for a country to avoid its participation in globalization. As a consequence, a debate over globalization and politics is in place.

Does globalization limit state sovereignty? Is there such a thing as global politics? How much influence do states have in global politics? Where does the “power” to decide and to rule actually lie when states are more dependent on each other? What could possibly happen if a state decides to break a bilateral or multilateral agreement?

The issues that face the world today, and which are considered to be of paramount importance, not just to one country, but to whole regions, and in many cases the entire world, is responsible for bringing nation states together out of necessity and concern for a better life for their citizens and countries.

There will always be issues that extend beyond the boundaries of the state. Neighboring countries will always have issues to iron out between them. For example, immigration issues and policies that affect the region; exploration and use of natural resources; economic issues, etc. But there are also issues that affect or may affect the entire world. Can you identify some of them?

There are organizations, regional and international, that have been set up for the purpose of managing these issues. What are some regional and international organizations that have been established, and what’s their main purpose for existing? REGIONAL CARICOM MERCOSUR NAFTA UNASUR CELAC INTERNATIONAL IMF WB WTO OPEC WHO
