The Frenchmen, the Spaniards, and the Englishmen were in Mexico. The Englishmen and Spaniards made deals and left. The Frenchmen wanted to stay and colonize the country. Benito Juarez was the president of Mexico. Emperor Napoleon III, sent a Hapsburg prince to form a Mexican empire. His name was Maximillian and his wife was Carlota. The Frenchmen had not been defeated in many years and the French Foreign Legion was very strong and well armed. General Zaragoza and the Colonel Porfirio Diaz leading the Mexicans with some old guns, machetes and rocks encountered the French Legion.
