Notes on Negative & Affirmative Words
Negative/Affirmative words Unlike English, in Spanish you MUST use negative vocabulary if you’re making a negative statement: ¿Quieres hacer algo este fin de semana? (affirmative response) Sí, yo quiero hacer algo con alguien, tal vez Rosa Yes, I want to do something with somebody, maybe Rosa (negative response) No,este fin de semana no quiero hacer nada con nadie No, I do not want to do nothing with nobody

¡Esta tienda es la peor. Nunca hay nadie para atenderme ¡Esta tienda es la peor! Nunca hay nadie para atenderme. No tiene ninguna blusa que me guste; no se venden ni pendientes ni anillos. ¡No voy a comprar nada! This store is the worst! There is never nobody here to help me. They don’t have none blouse that I like; nor do they not sell neither earrings nor rings. I’m not going to buy nothing!
*Ningún / Ninguno /Ninguna ningún/ninguno and ninguna only have singular forms- literally “not even one” Acá no hay nadie que quiera ningún problema con la policía. There is no one here who wants any trouble with the cops. No hay ninguna silla en la sala; necesitamos unas. There are no chairs in the classroom; we need some. ¿Tienes hermanos? No, ninguno. Do you have any brothers? No, none.
