Lesson 7 Usage Comparisons, Joven and Pequeño

Comparisons To form the comparative we use más and menos. Tucker is más gordo que Steve. Tucker is more fat (fatter) than Steve. Tucker tiene menos pelo que Shawn. Tucker has less hair than Shawn.

Superlatives To form the superlative, we use el más or la más. Yao Ming es el más alto del NBA. Yao Ming is the most tall (tallest) of the NBA. Tyra Banks es la mujer más bonita. Tyra Banks is the woman most beautiful. For emphasis, we can add de todos. Michael Jordan es el mejor basquetbolista de todos. Michael Jordan is the best basketball player of all.

Joven and pequeño both mean young. Use joven to refer to a teenager, an adult, an animal or a plant. Un hombre joven. A young man. Use pequeño to refer to a child younger than a teenager. When used to describe an adult or a thing, it means small. Un niño pequeño. A young child. Una mujer pequeña. A small woman.
