Direct Objects What is the subject, verb, and direct object? Diagram each part of these English sentences: I want that skirt. I bought some shoes.

Direct Object Pronouns Direct object pronouns take the place of the direct object in a sentence. For example:

Direct Object Pronouns Instead of saying, “I want that skirt,” you can say, “I want it.” The word “it” takes the place of the word “that skirt.”

Direct Object Pronouns (Spanish) me (me) te (you) lo (him or it) la (her or it) nos (us) os (you all inf.) los (them, you all) las (them, you all)

Placement of Direct Object Pronouns Direct Object Pronouns, me, te, lo, la, nos, los and las are placed either before a conjugated verb or attached to the end of an infinitive.

Before the Conjugated Verb: ¿Cuándo compraste la blusa? La compré hace cinco días.

Before the Conjugated Verb ¿Tienes mi suéter? No, no lo tengo.

Before the Conjugated Verb ¿Compraste esos pantalones? Sí, los compré.

Re-escribe las oraciones con los pronombres de los objetos directos. Cobré mi cheque en el banco. Lo cobré en el banco. Devolví los libros en la biblioteca. Los devolví en la biblioteca. Eché las cartas en el buzón. Las eché en el buzón.

Infinitives You can either attach a pronoun to a verb in the infinitive or place the pronoun before the conjugated verb.

Before the verb or after the infinitive: ¿Quieres comprar esa falda? Sí, la quiero comprar.

¿Quieres comprar esa falda? After the infinitive: ¿Quieres comprar esa falda? Sí, quiero comprarla.

Re-escribe las oraciones con los pronombres de los objetos directos. Quiero llenar el tanque con gasolina. Lo quiero llenar con gasolina. Quiero llenarlo con gasolina. Ella puede comprar el champú en la farmacia. Ella lo puede comprar en la farmacia. Ella puede comprarlo.

Direct Object Pronouns When the pronoun replaces both a masculine and a feminine direct object noun, we use los. For example:

Direct Object Pronouns ¿Cuándo compraste la falda y el vestido? Los compré el sábado.
