Gustar (To Please) like

Use “gustar” to talk about the things that please you… in English we would say to like Ejemplo: It pleases me to read….I like to read It pleases us to run….We like to run.

How do we use it? “Gustar” is different… We don’t use gustar with the usual subject pronouns.

Gustar Pronouns Because you are using “gustar” pronouns, you don’t necessarily have to put a subject. If you want to put a subject, you have to write it differently.

Gusta When translating “gustar”, it does not get conjugated like most verbs… The only form that we will use for Spanish I is gusta

Let’s Put It Together… Me gusta leer If you want to say “I like to read”…

Ejemplos We like to run. The boys like to eat. Maria likes to skate. Nos gusta correr. Les gusta comer. Le gusta patinar.

A nosotros nos gusta correr. A los chicos les gusta comer. You could have also written them like this… A nosotros nos gusta correr. A los chicos les gusta comer. A Maria le gusta patinar.

How do we answer questions with “gustar”? Me gusta … ¿Qué te gusta hacer?

¿Te gusta bailar? Other Questions Sí, me gusta bailar. (Yes, I like to dance.) *nota: remember, “no” also means “don’t” No, no me gusta bailar. (No, I don’t like to dance.)
