Adjective/ Noun Agreement A word that describes a noun is an adjective. In Spanish, an adjective must agree with the noun it describes. If the noun is masculine, then the adjective must be in the masculine form. If the noun is feminine, then the adjective must be in the feminine form. In Spanish, many singular masculine adjectives end in –o. In Spanish, many singular feminine adjectives end in –a.

When we wish to refer to a definite or specific person or thing we use the DEFINITE ARTICLE “THE” in English. In Spanish, there are two definite articles to refer to one thing or person: el = the  masculine el muchacho guapo – the good-looking boy la = the  feminine la muchacha bonita – the pretty girl

When we wish to refer to an indefinite or non-specific person or thing we use the INDEFINITE ARTICLE “a/an” in English. In Spanish, there are two indefinite articles to refer to one thing or person: un = a/an  masculine un muchacho guapo – a good-looking boy una = a/an  feminine una muchacha bonita – a pretty girl

What are the plural forms of el and la, un and una? el = los la = las un = unos (some) una = unas (some)

**To form the plural of adjectives that end in o, a, or e, you simple add s to the singular form. el muchacho = los muchachos la muchacha = las muchachas un alumno = unos alumnos una alumna = unas alumnas

**To form the plural of adjectives that end in a consonant, you simply add es. el profesor fácil los profesores fáciles la profesora fácil las profesoras fáciles un profesor fácil unos profesores fáciles

What does the plural look like when we combine it with the verb SER? The boy is tall  El muchacho es alto. The boys are tall  Los muchachos son altos. A girl is short  Una muchacha es baja. Some girls are short  Unas muchachas son bajas.

Warm up 2.5 el chico bajo  la persona interesante  una muchacha bonita  un muchacho sincero  el profesor fácil 

los chicos bajos las personas interesantes unas muchachas bonitas unos muchachos sinceros los profesores fáciles
