¿Qué es el imperfecto? El imperfecto is a form of the past tense used to describe actions that have been ongoing in the past that may or may not have ended (they may still be occurring) El imperfecto typically describes actions that happened over a prolonged period of time*.

The Imperfecto is used to: Say what was happening (not what happened) Say how things were (used to be) Describe repeated actions Describe actions with no beginning or no end. Physically describe permanent features about people and things. Tell time and weather

Describing people/things, weather and telling time with el imperfecto. El edificio era grande Había muchas flores en el jardín. Hacía mucho calor. Eran las cinco y media Ella tenía el pelo rubio.

Repeated Actions « Cada verano yo bailaba ». « Yo me lavaba todas las mañanas ». These are things that happened over and over again in the past.

Actions that are NOT instantaneous This means actions that happened slowly and over a longer period of time. Cuando yo era joven, yo pasaba el día todo a la playa

Actions with no beginning or no end Todos los días, yo comía una manzana. Cada mañana yo me cepillaba los dientes When was the beginning of the action? When was the end? We dont know Technically, it may still be happening.
