2. For “ar” verbs add “ando” to the stem *hablando, lavando, pasando* When you want to emphasize that an action is happening right now, you use the present progressive tense. To form the present progressive tense, use the verb “estar + the present participle.” Start by conjugating the verb “estar” to agree with the subject: estoy, estás, está, estamos, están. Then . . . 1. Form the present participle by dropping the ending of the infinitive. correr = corr hablar = habl lavar = lav 2. For “ar” verbs add “ando” to the stem *hablando, lavando, pasando* 3. For “er, ir” verbs add “iendo” to the stem *escribiendo, bebiendo, comiendo*
