How long something has been going on… HACE + (pd. of time) + QUE + PRESENT TENSE Hace 11 a ños que enseño espa ñol. Hace 5 minutos que aprenden esta lección. I have taught Spanish for 11 years. (not an exact translation) You have learned this lesson for 5 minutes.

I have been speaking Spanish for 18 years. We have been in school for 10 years. You have been in class for 27 minutes. Johnny has wanted a girlfriend for 16 years.
