How long something has been going on… HACE + (pd. of time) + QUE + PRESENT TENSE Hace 11 a ños que enseño espa ñol. Hace 5 minutos que aprenden esta lección. I have taught Spanish for 11 years. (not an exact translation) You have learned this lesson for 5 minutes.

How long has it been… To ask the duration of something, we use the following formula… ¿CUÁNTO TIEMPO HACE QUE + PRESENT? ¿Cuánto tiempo hace que sales con tu novia? ¿Cuánto tiempo hace que estudiamos espa ñol? How long have you and your girl gone out? How long have you studied Spanish?

To say AGO… HACE + (pd. of time) + QUE + PRETERITE TENSE or PRETERITE TENSE + HACE + (pd. of time) Hace 5 años que fui a un parque de diversiones. Vencé > hace 3 meses. I went to an amusement park 5 years ago. I finished “God of War” 3 months ago.

Examples: Mr. Hinkle has ate 5 minutes ago We ate breakfast 3 hours ago. 27 years ago, I was born (nacer). Hace 5 minutos que Señor Hinkle comió. Comimos desayuno hace 3 horas. Hace 27 años que nací. o Nací hace 26 años.
