Important points to remember about the imperfect:

1. For regular imperfect tense verb conjugations, drop the ending of the infinitive and add the following endings in its place:

Drop –AR, and add… yo ___aba nosotros _____ábmos nosotras tú ___abas vosotros ______abais vosotras él ellos ella ___aba ellas ______aban Usted Ustedes

Drop –ER, and add… yo ___ía nosotros ______íamos nosotras tú ___ías vosotros ______íais vosotras él ellos ella ___ía ellas ______ían Usted Ustedes

Drop –IR, and add… yo ___ía nosotros ______íamos nosotras tú ___ías vosotros ______íais vosotras él ellos ella ___ía ellas ______ían Usted Ustedes

Yes, it’s true!!! “ER” and “IR” imperfect tense verbs share the same endings!! Easy!! 

–AR, –ER, and -IR stem-changing verbs do NOT have a stem-change in the preterite!! YEA!!! The “e” remains an “e”, the “o” remains an “o”, and the “u” remains “U”. 2.
