* Imperfe¢t Used to talk about what happened in the past…
…at a continuing time “I was walking down the hall…” “The year was ” “used to” or “would” “When I was little, I used to play in the sand.” “I would go to my grandma’s house every day.” *

Imperfe¢t The imperfect implies a continual action, while the preterite implies something that happened at a specific time. Compare: “I ate a hamburger.” --PRETERITE “I was eating a hamburger.” --IMPERFECT *

* 2 sets of regular endings: NO stem changes, period!!! -ar verbs
(-aba; accent on nosotros form) -er and -ir verbs (-ía; accent on ALL forms) NO stem changes, period!!! (querer quería, querías, etc.) *

Los niños jugaban al béisbol mientras sus padres cocinaban la cena. The children were playing baseball while their parents were cooking dinner. -OR- The children would play baseball while their parents cooked dinner. *
