To form the imperfect tense in Spanish you follow these steps… How Find the infinitive of the verb being conjugated eg: to study – estudiar Take off the infinitive ending (-ar / -er / -ir) so that you’re left with the “stem” of the verb eg: estudiar Add one of the following endings, depending on who or what is doing the verb, and what type of verb it is X NOTE: You do not need a separate word for “I / you / he”etc, as this is shown through the verb ending you add on. -AR Verbs -aba -abas -ábamos -abais -aban -ER Verbs -ía -ías -íamos -íais -ían -IR Verbs -ía -ías -íamos -íais -ían I You (sing,inf) He/she/it We You(pl,inf) They

Some verbs are irregular (they don’t follow this pattern) and you just have to learn them. For example: Ir (to go) Ser (to be) ver (to see) yo I tú you él/ella he/she nosotros we vosotros you all ellos/ellas they iba era veía ibas eras veías veía iba era íbamos éramos veíamos ibais erais veíais veían iban eran NOTE: You do not need a separate word for “I / you / he”etc, as this is shown through the verb ending you add on.
