The present progressive
TO be DOING (pg 7 of paquete) Using ESTAR for expressing what IS happening. The PRESENT PROGRESSIVE is used when you want to say what you are doing RIGHT NOW. This is like the “-ing” ending in English. The only difference is, in Spanish they ONLY use this when they are currently in the middle of something RIGHT THEN.
The way you form this tense is by: First taking the form of ESTAR that matches the person you are talking about. Estoy estamos estás está están
NOTE: when using “ir” for going, just conjugate Ir for going = Voy a estudiar = I am going to study. They don’t use yendo for ir.
Then drop the ending of the infinitive (Ar, -Er, -Ir) Add the following endings: AR: -ANDO - ER/IR = IENDO I am talking = Estoy hablando We are eating = Estamos comiendo.
Leer, Creer (to believe/think), oír (to hear) traer ( to bring) = YENDO Leer= LEYENDO Creer = ________________ Oír = _________________ Traer = _____________________
Leer, Creer (to believe/think), oír (to hear) traer ( to bring) = YENDO Leer= LEYENDO Creer = CREYENDO Oír = OYENDO Traer = TRAYENDO
The ending of –ando, iendo, yendo does NOT change based on how many people! Practiquemos: Ejemplo: Mi padre / cocinar = Mi padre está cocinando
