2 English moment: What is the difference between these two sentences?
1. I talk to my friends. 2. I am talking to my friends. How do you express events that are happening right now? Using the -ING at the end of the verb.

3 El presente progresivo
El tiempo presente progresivo in Spanish is widely used. It is formed the same way as the English tense: to be (am, is, are) + verb-ing: She is singing. estar (estoy, estás, está, están) + verbo –ando/-iendo Look at the example: (Yo) estoy caminando (Subject) + to be + verb –ando/iendo ando

Other examples: a. Marielba está preparando la comida. b. ¿Qué estás haciendo? c. Julio y yo no estamos entendiendo la clase. Easy right!? Hablar changes to -> hablando. Beber changes to ->bebiendo. Escribir changes to -> escribiendo. What’s the rule you can come up with?

5 El presente progresivo
The rules are: -AR verbs change to –ando. –ER and –IR changes to –iendo. You must add verb ESTAR and conjugate it depending on the subject: a. Tú estás comiendo. (correct) b. Tú comiendo. (incorrect)

The rules are (cont.): When there is a vowel before the ending of a -er or –ir verb, there is letter change –yendo. Leer – leyendo Traer – trayendo Creer – creyendo Oir – oyendo Caer - cayendo But also: ir a – yendo a

The rules are (cont.): Some verbs change in spelling. YOU MUST MEMORIZE THESE: decir -> diciendo repetir – repitiendo pedir – pidiendo preferir – prefiriendo servir – sirviendo venir – viniendo
