1 Apuntes: Present Progressive
The present progressive is a verb tense that is used to tell what one is doing right now, at this moment; an action that is in progress. The present progressive requires 3 parts in the answer: subject pronoun (yo,tú,él,ella,Ud.,nosotros,ellos,ellas,Uds) a form of the verb estar (to be) yo- estoy (I am) nosotros- estamos (we are) tú- estás (you fam. are) *él ellos *ella está( he,she, you fs. are) ellas están *Ud everyone is/ it is Uds. *Todo el mundo (everyone) *“It” c. the main verb in the participle/gerund form (-ing form) If the verb is an –ar verb, take the last two letters off of the infinitive and add –ando. If the verb is an –er/-ir verb, take the last two letters off of the infinitive and add -iendo THERE ARE NO STEM CHANGES IN THE PRESENT PROGRESSIVE! IR IS IRREGULAR IN THE PRESENT PROGRESSIVE! IR=YENDO

2 Verb that use the –yendo ending.
Some verbs use the –yendo ending, in order to prevent having 3 consecutive vowels. These verbs are: leer-to read (leyendo) caer-to fall (cayendo) creer-to believe (creyendo) huir-to flee (huyendo) ir-to go (yendo) 6. influir-to influence (influyendo) 7. oír- to hear (oyendo) 8. traer-to bring (trayendo) IRREGULAR VERB SEGUIR seguir-to follow (siguiendo)

Ejemplos Right now, I am studying (estudiar) Ahora mismo, yo estoy estudiando She is talking/speaking (hablar) Ella está hablando They are not cooking (cocinar) Ellos no están cocinando Ms. Ford is not walking (caminar) Ella no está caminando At this moment, you (fam.) are not swimming (nadar) - En este momento, tú no estás nadando The girls are traveling (viajar) now. Ahora, ellas están viajando Now, you and I are walking (andar) Nosotros estamos andando ahora Barack Obama is eating (comer) Él está comiendo Right now, it is raining. (llover, o-ue)- NO STEM CHANGE! -Ahora mismo, está lloviendo. I am going (ir) to the supermarket. -Yo estoy yendo al supermercado.

Right now- ahora mismo {ah-or-rah} {mees-mo} 2. Now- ahora {ah-or-rah} ***Now can be placed at either the front, or the end of the sentence*** 3. At this moment- En este momento {in} {ay-stay} {mo-men-toe} At this second- En este segundo {in} {ay-stay} {say-goon-doe}
