El Pretérito The preterite tense is a past tense. Just because an actions occurs in the past does not mean that the preterit has to be used. The preterit is only used to describe specific type of actions. Here is an example: I called last night. (PRETERIT) I called every night.(not preterit)

Ella habló a él ayer. 3. Describe an interrupting action. Ej. The teacher yelled as she walked past the student. La maestra gritó como ella caminaba por el estudiante.
