Comparisons of Equality To compare equal quantities, in English you use: as much . . . . as or as many . . . as He has as much money as I. He has as many problems as I. In Spanish you use: tanto . . . como. Since tanto is an adjective it has to agree with the noun it modifies. Elena tiene tanta energía como yo. Pero ella no tiene tantos accidentes como yo.

To compare equal qualities in English you use: as . . . as I am as smart as he is. In Spanish you use tan . . . como with either the adjective or adverb: Él está tan enfermo como su amigo. Él se va a curar tan rápido como ella.
