¡Charlamos! ¿ Te levantas tarde? ¿ Sales a divertirte los sábados o domingos? ¿ No te aburres en casa? ¿ Te peinas y te maquillas? ¿ Te duermes temprano? ¿ Te acuestas tarde? ¿ Comes un desayuno ligero? ¿ Sigues una rutina fija?

Conjugation’s Back! Watch the video to remind yourself about verbs… I will then test your knowledge on the mini White-boards-you choose the verbs- e.g burp etc…

Empareja las palabras Se duerme despertarse Me despierto dormirse Te acuestas acostarse Me maqillo maquillarse

Reflexive verbs When you look up a verb in the dictionary, if it has ‘se’ written on the end, this means it is a reflexive verb. e.g. lavarse (to have a wash) ducharse (to have a shower) acostarse (to go to bed) These verbs work in exactly the same way as other verbs except that they need an extra word, a reflexive pronoun, which roughly translates at ‘myself’, ‘yourself’ etc. The pronoun must match the person doing the verb. me myself me lavo te yourself te lavas se himself/herself/itself; yourself (polite) se lava nos ourselves nos lavamos os yourselves os laváis se themselves; yourselves (polite) se lavan The reflexive pronouns are usually placed directly in front of the verb.

Reflexive verbs – continued When there are two verbs together and one is an infinitive, the reflexive pronoun can go in front of the first verb or on the end of the infinitive. Me quiero duchar or Quiero ducharme ¿No te vas a acostar? or ¿vas a acostarte? You can’t do this, however, with gustar and similar verbs. ‘Me gusta bañarme’ is the only possibilty. You couldn’t say ‘Me me gusta bañar’! When you use the present or imperfect continous tense with a reflexive verb e.g. I am having a shower/He was taking a bath, the reflexive pronoun can be placed in one of two places. Me estoy duchando or Estoy duchándome Note the accent on the gerund. That is there to keep the stress in the original place.
