Los adjetivos posesivos (Possessive Adjectives) singular forms plural forms English equivalent mi mis my tu tus your (familiar) su sus his, her, its, your (formal) nuestro/a nuestros/as our vuestro/a vuestros/as your (familiar) su sus their, your (formal)

Like all adjectives, possessive adjectives agree with the nouns they describe. Mi computadora My computer Mis discos compactos My CDs Nuestro sitio web Our website Nuestra cámara Our camera Sus carros His/Her/Your/Their cars

Los adjetivos posesivos tónicos Stressed Possessive Adjectives

Stressed possessive adjectives can be used for emphasis. They are placed after the noun and the definite article comes before noun. The adjective agrees in gender and number with the noun. mi casa = la casa mía tus amigos = los amigos tuyos su estéreo = el estéreo suyo nuestras computadoras = las computadoras nuestras vuestro cibercafé = el cibercafé vuestro

Mi carro es rojo. ¿De qué color es el carro tuyo? My car is red. What color is your car?

When stressed possessive adjectives are used with an indefinite article (un, una, unos, unas) it means of mine/yours/his /etc. Paco es un amigo mío. Paco is a friend of mine. Tengo unos libros suyos. I have some books of his.

Los pronombres posesivos (Possessive Pronouns) Possessive pronouns are formed by removing the noun from a stressed possessive adjective –noun construction. el celular mío  el mío (mine) la cámara tuya  la tuya (yours) los archivos nuestros  los nuestros (ours)

Mi calculadora está en la mesa. ¿Dónde está la tuya? My calculator is on the table. Where’s yours? Nuestras clases son difíciles. Las suyas son fáciles. Our classes are hard. Theirs are easy.

When a possessive pronoun follows ser, the definite article is usually omitted. Este teléfono no es mío. Es de Carla. This phone isn’t mine. It’s Carla’s. ¿Estos discos compactos son de Ana? - No, no son suyos. Son míos. Are these CDs Ana’s? - No, they’re not hers. They’re mine.
