The Subjunctive with Impersonal Expressions Sra. Lear Español 2 Unidad 3 Etapa 3

You already know how to form usted commands. You form the subjunctive the same way. For –ar verbs, take The yo form, drop the -o and add endings with –e. For –er, ir verbs, take The yo form, drop the -o and add endings with –a.

Remember…. ar = e er,ir = a …take the opposite ending.

You use the indicative to make a plain statement of fact. Haces ejercicio. You use the subjunctive after verbs & expressions that involve uncertainty. Es necesario que (tu) hagas ejercicio. In the second example, a person needs to exercise, but it is uncertain that the person will.

Impersonal expressions such as es necesario que are often followed by the subjunctive because they create uncertainty about what will happen.
