If a word in Spanish ends in a vowel, n, or s, the stress (when pronounced) falls on the next-to-last syllable. If a word ends in any other letter, the stress falls on the last syllable. This is why joven (young) adds an accent mark when made plural jóvenes (to retain the stress) For the same reason, francés, inglés, alemán, and japonés drop the accent marks when made plural. franceses, ingleses, alemanes, japoneses *the second Viva (online) assignment that deals with adjectives asks you to identify the adjective that doesnt match the others. It wants you to look at masculine/feminine, singular/plural, not what the adjectives actually mean.
