2 Nouns & Verbs What is a noun?
A Noun is a person, place, thing, or idea. (sustantivo) What is a verb? A Verb is an action (like run) or it can link the subject to a description (like is). (verbo)

3 Practice Examples Circle the nouns and draw boxes around the verbs in the following sentences. Mrs. Schoolcraft teaches Spanish. Mr. Parsons runs the school. Julia is the President of Spanish Club. Roberto ran quickly.

4 What is the subject of the sentence?
The subject of the sentence is what or who is doing the action or what or who is being described. Underline the subjects in each sentence. Gloria lives in Spain with her family. Eduardo eats enchiladas every evening. She smiled at him. A cheeseburger is a hamburger with cheese.

5 What type of speech is a subject?
The subject of a sentence is always a NOUN. What are some types of sustantivos/nouns? Proper nouns  Mr. Parsons, Ohio, Wadsworth (words that tend to be capitalized) Common nouns  cheeseburger, dog, teacher Pronouns  she, he, they, it

6 What is a pronoun’s job? Pronouns / Pronombres replace nouns mentioned earlier. The nouns that are mentioned earlier are called antecedents.
