What is a reflexive verb? A reflexive verb is a verb where the person who performs the action also receives the action. You do something to or for yourself. You reflect the action back onto yourself.

How to conjugate a reflexive verb Lavarse Lavar + se lavo lavamos lavas laváis lava lavan Yo me lavo Tú te lavas Él se lava…. Take off the “se” Conjugate the verb as you normally would (stem-changing, irregular, etc.) Put the pronoun in front of the conjugated verb. The reflexive pronoun will agree with the subject.

Reflexives as infinitives When the infinitive form of a reflexive verb is used, the reflexive pronoun still needs to agree with the subject. The pronoun can be attached to the infinitive: Yo tengo que lavarme las manos. It can also go in front of the conjugated verb: Yo me tengo que lavar las manos.
Reflexive or not? Some verbs can be used as reflexive verbs or not: lavarse las manos lavar el carro Juan se lava las manos. Juan lava el carro.
How can you tell if the verb is reflexive? Tú te despiertas vs. Tú me despiertas When the subject and the pronoun are the same person, then you know the verb is reflexive. When the subject and the pronoun are different, the verb is not reflexive and the pronoun is a direct or indirect object pronoun.
