ESPAÑOL:INGLÉS: Subject and predicate Express a complete thought Also called independent clause. Jane Austen, one of the best authors of English literature, died in María and Juan went to the movies last week.

Two independent clauses joined by a coordinator Coordinators are always preceded by a comma (except for very short sentences) FANBOYS Alex was playing football, so Emma went shopping. C OMPOUND SENTENCES K INDS OF CLAUSES Independent or main clause: o Same as a simple sentence My brother went to the store. C OMPLEX SENTENCES Subordinate or dependent clause: o Contains a subject and a verb o Does not express a complete thought o Cannot stand alone as a sentence o They are often introduced by subordinate conjunctions After I cleaned my room, I watched TV. An independent clause joined by one or more dependent clauses The teacher returned the homework after she noticed the mistake.

EJEMPLOS

In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the spirit of God moved upon the face of waters. And God said, Let there be light: and there was a light. And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called night. And the evening and the morning were the first day. And God said, Let there be a firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament. And it was so. Y estaban tan.
