Gustar y los sujetos

So far, we have seen the phrases: Me gusta correr. – I like to run. Te gusta bailar. – You like to dance. Le gusta comer. – He likes to eat. – She likes to eat. – You like (formal) like to eat.

What happens when you want to say that you like certain nouns instead of verbs? If what you like is a singular noun, such as la hamburguesa, the phrase is worded the same: – Me gusta la hamburguesa. I like the hamburger. If what you like is a plural, meaning there is more than one, add an n to gusta. – Me gustan las papas fritas. I like the french fries.

If you (informal), he, she or you (formal) like cake, apples, Spanish class, or cats, you say: Te gusta la torta. A él le gustan las manzanas. A ella le gusta la clase de español. A Usted le gustan los gatos.
