Las celebraciones del año Hay muchas fechas importantes durante el año. Los países hispanohablantes celebran estas fechas de varias formas. Algunas celebraciones son iguales de las de los Estados Unidos, pero también hay tradiciones diferentes. Escuchen. Try to listen and look for cognates and words you know.

Una actividad On the next slides, you will see information in Spanish about a hispanic celebration. There will be words you already know, as well as a few cognates. As you listen, make a list of all of the words you know and their definitions, as well as all of the cognates you see and what you think they mean. You are not translating the whole passage, just finding words.

La quinceañera La quinceañera es una tradición especial de la cultura latina. Representa el momento en que una chica llega a ser una mujer. Las tradiciones son diferentes en cada religión. Una tradición es tener una ceremonia religiosa. Algunas fiestas se celebran en la casa de la familia. Otras se celebran en un hotel o un restaurante. La familia de la quinceañera invita a todos sus primos, sus tíos, sus abuelos y sus buenos amigos.

Ahora, tu turno Now, it’s your turn to teach the class about Hispanic holidays and celebrations. I will give you information about an event and you will work in groups of 2-3 for 30 minutes to create a presentation in English. Everyone must speak for an equal amount of time (45 seconds each) and your presentation must be professional. NO PHONES are allowed for any reason. If you finish early, levanta su mano for me to check your work. I will assign the groups!
