Progress Reports Feb. 5 th Valentine’s Day Feb. 14 th and a celebration in the afternoon President’s Day Feb. 18 th Feb. 15 th - 19 th No School We are still reading lots of non-fiction stories that go along with our learning in science and social studies. These books give us factual information. When reading these as ask students to really look at the vocabulary and what they mean. This month we will be working on writing friendly letters, expository text and personal narratives. We have been working hard on learning to write expository text which is text that is true and gives the reader facts and lots of information! Students will continue to work on building addition and subtraction fluency and adding numbers to 20. Continue to practice each night using flash cards. We will also keep working on word problems, telling time to the hour/ half-hour and building patterns with numbers. Wish List: We are in need of some items for our students if you are able to help it is appreciated! -glue sticks- Clorox wipes -eraser tips-Kleenex -expo markers This month is a busy one! February is National Children’s Dental health month along with Black History Month so these will keep us busy! We will also be studying about our country, of America and the Presidents. First grade will be going on their next field trip to the John A. Walker Center on February 27 th to see Clifford the Big Red Dog. That one sounds so good! Be on the lookout for information coming home about that. We have been working on long vowels in spelling, see if your child can remember any of the rules we use to remember. Like: “When two vowels go walking, the first does all the talking,” or when we use “super e” we know the vowel says it’s name. They are loving learning about these special spellings and it will help them become even better readers to remember spelling patterns so keep working hard! Welcome to February! We are so excited about this month and all it has in store for us. We are almost half-way finished with the 3 rd quarter of 1 st grade so please keep working hard. Thank you for your help in completing weekly homework each week, studying spelling words and reading everyday!
