B RITISH PEOPLE CELEBRATE P ANCAKE D AY ON THE T UESDAY BEFORE A SH W EDNESDAY ( IN F EBRUARY OR IN M ARCH, SIX WEEKS BEFORE E ASTER ). T HEY COOK AND EAT PANCAKES AND THERE ARE PANCAKE RACES IN EVERY TOWN. I N OTHER COUNTRIES, LIKE IN S PAIN, PEOPLE CELEBRATE C ARNIVAL AT THIS TIME OF THE YEAR. T HERE ARE PARADES THROUGH THE STREETS AND PEOPLE WEAR MASKS AND FANCY DRESSES. P EOPLE SING SPECIAL SONGS CALLED “ MURGAS ”. To prepare and eat a pancake you need: a bowl, a fork, a spoon, a knife, a frying pan, a glass, a plate, a jug, milk, flour, salt, eggs, lemon, sugar and butter.

F OLLOW THESE STEPS : 1 st : Mix some flour, salt and an egg in a bowl. 2 nd : Stir the mixture and add a glass of milk. 3 nd : Put some mixture in a frying pan and cook one side of the pancake. 4 th : Toll the pancake and cook the other side. 5 th : Put some sugar and lemon on the pancake and eat it.

Con este texto los alumnos y alumnas de Primaria nos cuentan que los británicos celebran la fiesta del pancake aproximadamente coincidiendo con nuestro Carnaval. En este día comen los pancakes, e incluso hacen carreras con ellos.

Si nunca las habéis hecho en casa ya veis que os han escrito la receta. ¡Ánimo!, es todo un arte darlas la vuelta en el aire como Jose Manuel. Pueden tomarse salpicadas con azúcar, rellenas de mermelada, chocolate, crema…

Con el Carnaval intercultural hemos aprendido que también se hacen en otras partes del mundo. En Rumanía se llaman “clatite” (nos los trajo Georgiana), en Rusia “blinis”, en Francia “crepes”…

… en Asturias son “frixuelos” (y los hicimos con Teresa), en Galicia “filloas”… aquí tortitas.
