Objetivo:How do we say what sports various people like to play? What makes a stem changing verb special? Hagan Ahora: What verbs mean “to play”? (There are two.) jugar and tocar

2 Jugar – to play This verb has a stem change. What does that mean?
The stem of the verb changes when you conjugate it. In this case, the stem is: jug The u in the stem becomes ue In Spanish this is called a “stem changing verb”.

3 Stem changing verbs cont.
NOTE: The nosotros and vosotros forms do not stem change. After you made the stem change, conjugate the verb with the regular endings.

4 Steps for conjugating “stem changing” verbs.
Decide if the verb has stem change and what it is. (Ex: Jugar – yes, bailar - no) Write the stem with the stem change. (Jueg) Look at the ending. Is it –ar, -er, -ir? (-ar verb) Add the correct ending.

5 Jugar – to play u  ue stem change
Yo juego Tú juegas Él Ella juega Ud. Nosotros jugamos Vosotros jugáis Ellos Ellas juegan Uds.
