What is a “stem-change?” The verbs we have learned in the past are “regular” verbs. Unfortunately, it can’t ALL be that easy! Some verbs have a stem that changes along with the ending in some forms. Ex: Jugar Yo Juego

Basics Here are the basic stem-changing groups It will be the last vowel in the stem that changes Notice that all forms change, except in the nosotros and vosotros forms. e → ie o → ue e → i Empezar Dormir Servir (to start) (to sleep) (to serve) Yo empiezo duermo sirvo Tú empiezas duermes sirves Ud.,él,ella empieza duerme sirve Nosotros/as empezamos dormimos servimos Vosotros/as empezáis dormís servís Uds.,ellos/as empiezan duermen sirven
