Remember that we covered eie stem changing verbs in Unidad 4.1. These types of verbs are also referred to as “SHOE VERBS” All forms have a stem change except for nosotros and vosotros.

6 Poder – to be able to (“can”)
Poder is almost always going to be used with an infinitive: ¡Yo puedo hacerlo! I can do it! Ella puede entender el español muy bien. She can understand Spanish really well. Podemos almorzar a las doce y media. We can have lunch at 12:30.

7 Repaso: ¿Cuánto cuesta(n)?
When we want to ask how much something costs, we use the verb costar (o→ue) Ask ¿Cuánto cuesta? if there is one item you are asking about. (The verb agrees with what costs.) ¿Cuánto cuesta el plato principal? Cuesta diez dólares. Ask ¿Cuánto cuestan? if there are two or more items you are asking about. ¿Cuánto cuestan las entradas? Cuestan quince euros.

10 Is it an –ar, -er, or –ir verb?
Don’t Forget!!!!!!!! Look at the ending of the verb to determine how to end the conjugation. Is it an –ar, -er, or –ir verb?
