So what does this have to do with the preterite tense? When conjugating verbs, we always want to preserve the hard or soft sound that the infinitive originally had. Repiten: Pagar Conjugate it in the Yo form. Repiten: Page??? Does this preserve the sound?

What this means… In the Yo form of the preterite, we must change the stem of the verb if the infinitive ends with CAR/GAR/ZAR.
