Tener idioms:  Remember, an idiom is an expression that doesn’t make full sense when translated word for word. You need to look at the phrase as a whole.  These Tener idioms, however, aren’t like the “happy as a clam” example where you could express the same thing in a different way. These are the correct way of stating the different ideas. They just sound funny when translated word for word to English.  You will just need to memorize these and remember to use them in the given situations rather than trying to translate from English directly.
