July 9, 2008 In Matthew 9:35 Jesus went about all cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the Gospel of the Kingdom. And in Matthew 10:7 we see that right after he chose the Apostles, he sent them to proclaim: “The Kingdom of heaven is at hand.” It is important to preach about the Kingdom of Jesus, it is central to his teaching.

En Mateo 9:35 Jesús recorría todas las ciudades y aldeas, enseñando en las sinagogas, predicando el Evangelio del Reino. Y en Mateo 10:7 vemos que después de llamar a los Apóstoles, los mando a proclamar: “¡El Reino de Dios esta cerca!” Es importante predicar del Reino de Jesús, es central a sus enseñanzas.

In Daniel 7:12 we see that the prophet “saw in a night vision the clouds of heaven, and then came one like the son of man, and he came to the Ancient of Days, and was presented before him. And to him was given dominion and glory and kingdom, that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve him; his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom one that shall not be destroyed.”

En Daniel 7:13 vemos que el profeta “miraba una visión de la noche, y he aquí con las nubes del cielo venía uno como un hijo de hombre, que vino hasta el Anciano de días, y le hicieron acercarse delante de Él. Y le fue dado dominio, gloria y reino, para que todos los pueblos, naciones y lenguas le sirvieran; su dominio es eterno, nunca pasará, y su reino jamás será destruido”.

Jesus claimed the title “Son of man” for himself. He fulfilled the prophecy of Daniel. And Daniel 9:18 says, “The saints of the Most High shall receive the kingdom, and possess the kingdom forever, forever, and ever.”

Jesús reclamó el titulo de “Hijo del hombre” para sí mismo. Él cumplió la profecía del Profeta Daniel. Y Daniel 9:18 dice que “Los santos del Altísimo recibirán el reino, y lo poseerán por toda la eternidad, para siempre.”

You and I are called to be the saints who are to receive the kingdom. The question is: “Are we ready? St. Ignatius Loyola says we must prepare to be ready. “Imagine Jesus on the Cross (under the title: “ King of the Jews”), and begin to speak with him. Reflect on how he stooped to become a man, in order to die for our sins.

Tú y yo somos llamados a ser los santos que han de recibir al Reino de Jesús. La pregunta es: “¿Estamos listos?” San Ignacio de Loyola dice que hay que prepararnos para estar listos. Y se hace de ésta manera: Imagínate a Jesús clavado en la cruz bajo el titulo de “Rey de los Judíos”. Refleja como Él es venido a hacerse hombre y así morir por nuestros pecados.

Reflect upon myself and ask: “What have I done for Christ?” “What am I doing for Christ?” and “What should I to do for Christ?” Behold Jesus Christ in his plight, nailed to the cross, and ponder what presents itself to my mind (Spiritual Exercises #53).

Luego refleja sobre si mismo, y has una platica con Jesús. Pregúntate, “¿Qué he hecho por Cristo Jesús?” Y luego: “¿Qué hago por Cristo Jesús?” Y entonces, “¿Qué debo hacer por Cristo Jesús, y así viéndole tal, como esta colgado en la cruz, piénsala, y habla con el Señor acerca de lo que se te ocurre (Ejercicios Espirituales # 53).

As King, Jesus calls me to join him. Consider what he says: “It is my will to conquer the whole world and all my enemies, and thus to enter into the glory of my Father. Therefore, whoever wishes to join me in this enterprise must be willing to labor with me, that by following me in suffering, he may follow me in glory” (Spiritual Exercises # 95).

Como Rey, Cristo Jesús me llama a acompañarlo. Considera lo que dice: “Es mi voluntad conquistar todo el mundo y todos los enemigos, y así entrar en la gloria de mi Padre; por tanto, quien quisiere venir conmigo ha de trabajar conmigo, porque, siguiéndome en la pena, también me siga en la gloria” (Ejercicios Espirituales # 95).

Anybody with good judgment and reason will offer himself entirely for this work. And those who wish to distinguish themselves in all that concern the eternal King will offer himself entirely for the work, and act against their sensuality and carnal and worldly love. In other words, this is for the lean and the strong, those who are courageous and disciplined. It is for the generous.

Considera que todos los que tienen juicio y razón se ofrecerá enteramente para este trabajo. Y además, todos los que deseen distinguirse en todo lo que se trata del Rey eterno, no solamente se ofrecerán, sino que también actuaran contra su propia sensualidad y contra su amor carnal y mundano. En otras palabras, se trata de personas fuertes y valientes, los que son de valor y que son disciplinados. Es para los generosos.

Are we ready to make that kind of sacrifice? Jesus looks at you straight in the eyes on the cross, waiting for your answer. Seeing so generous a King, how shamefull it would be for us to say no. Seeing his heart pierced with a lance, how disgracefull it would be for us to say: Sorry, I don’t have it in my heart to follow you Jesus.”

¿Estamos listos para hacer esa clase de sacrificio? Jesús, que está en la cruz, te mira directamente a tus ojos, y espera tu contestación. Al ver a tal Rey tan generoso, que vergüenza sería decir no. Al ver a su corazón traspasado por una lanza, que cobarde sería decirle a Jesús: “No, no está en mi corazón seguirte.”

Seeing his hands pierced with the nails, how dishonorable it will be for me to say: “Sorry, I don’t want to get my hands dirty.” Seeing his feet pierced with the nails, how mean it would be for me to say: “Sorry, I have other things to do.” Have a heart ! Answer Jesus, your King, as he hangs on the cross, waiting for your answer.

Al ver sus manos penetradas por los clavos, que deshonra sería para mí decir: “Lo siento, pero no quiero ensuciarme las manos.” Al ver a sus pies penetrados por una lanza, que vil sería para mí decir: “Lo siento, pero tengo otras cosas que hacer.” Ponte un corazón nuevo; un corazón de carne y no de piedra. Contéstale a Jesús, que esta clavado en la cruz, y espera tu contestación.

When Jesus called the Apostles, they were ready. They left all things and followed him. Are you ready? Cuando Él llamó a sus apóstoles, ellos estaban listos. Dejaron todo, y lo siguieron. Y ¿ qué de ti? ¿Estas listo?
