Pronombres Pronouns are used in a sentence to avoid repetition of a noun. There are four types of pronouns that we have learned in Spanish so far: Personal/ Subject Pronouns Indirect Object Pronouns Direct Object Pronouns Reflexive Pronouns

Pronombres Subject pronouns replace the subject of the sentence. ex: Mi madre quiere a mi padre. Mi madre quiere a él. Indirect object pronouns replace the person to whom or for whom an action is being done. ex:Ella da un beso a su novio. Ella le da un beso.

Pronombres Direct object pronouns replace the direct object or receipient of the action. ex: Ella pegó a su hermanito. Ella lo pegó. Reflexive pronouns are used when an action reflects back on the person who performs it. ex: Yo me vestía muy feo de niña.

Pronombres Dobles There are some simple rules to follow when dealing with sentences that have both a direct and indirect object. Regla #1: The pronoun(s) always go DIRECTLY BEFORE a conjugated verb or attached to the end of a verb phrase. ex: El mesero va a dar una sopa al cliente. El mesero la va a dar al cliente. Maria va a darla al cliente.

Pronombres Dobles Regla #2: The IOP always goes before the DOP. ex:Yo doy una sopa a ti. V DO IO Yo te doy una sopa. IOP VDO Yo te la doy. IOP- DOP- V

Pronombres dobles Regla #3: If you have two pronouns beginning with “L” the IOP must become “SE”. ex: Yo sirvo unas enchiladas a Kathy. V DOIO Yo le sirvo unas enchiladas. IOP V DO Yo le las sirvo. IOP DOP V Yo se las sirvo.

Otras Reglas Importantes The verb and the two pronouns are an unbreakable unit. Negative words and adverbs must come before or after this unit. ex: ¿Los tacos? La mesera no me los trajo nunca. VERB PRONOUN

Practica Vamos a dar una propina al mesero. Vamos a darsela/ Se la vamos a dar. Yo estoy cocinando la cena para ellos. Estoy concinandosela/Se la estoy cocinando. Compraron papas fritas para ti. Te las compraron. No quiere traer la sopa a nosotros. No nos la quiere traer.
