What is an indirect object? The I.O. indirectly receives the action of the verb. The I.O. answers the questions “to/for whom” or “to/for what” something is done.

When are I.O.Ps used? To replace the indirect object in the sentence. OR To accompany the indirect object that it modifies.

Placement of I.O.Ps When there is only ONE verb in a sentence and it is conjugated, the I.O.P. must be placed directly before it. –Yo doy la pelota a Juan. –Yo le doy la pelota (a Juan). –La mamá da a los niños el dinero. –La mamá les da el dinero (a los niños).

Placement of I.O.Ps When the sentence has a conjugated verb and a verb in the infinitive form, the I.O.P is either placed directly before the conjugated verb, or after and attached to the infinitive. Voy a pagar el dinero al agente de viajes. –Le voy a pagar el dinero (al agente de viajes). OR –Voy a pagarle el dinero (al agente de viajes).

¡Practiquemos! Digo al profesor la verdad. Voy a dar a Ana y a ti el regalo. Damos nuestros boletos a los auxiliares de vuelo. Julieta va a vender su coche a mi hermana y a mí.

¡Practiquemos! Le digo la verdad (al profesor). Les/Os voy a dar (a Ana y a ti) el regalo. OR Voy a darles/daros el regalo (a Ana y a ti). Les damos nuestros boletos (a los auxiliares de vuelo). Julieta nos va a vender su coche (a mi hermana y a mí). OR Julieta va a vendernos su coche.
