 All Spanish nouns are either masculine or feminine.  Nouns ending in –o are usually masculine.  Eg. libro, chico, caballo  Nouns ending in –a are usually feminine.  Eg. música, chica, bicicleta  All other nouns you must look at the (definite/indefinite) article to know whether it is masculine or feminine. Eg. el arból

Making nouns plural: If a noun ends in a vowel you add an –s.  chico=chicos  bicicleta=bicicletas If a noun ends in a consonant you add –es.  mujer=mujeres  actividad=actividades

 ¿Cómo eres(tú)? = How are you like?  ¿Cómo es usted?  Use the verb ser(to be) to tell how someone is like.  Yo soy alto= I am tall.  Ella es comica= She is funny.  Ustedes son serios=  You all are serious.

 Adjectives are words that describe nouns.  In Spanish the adjective usually comes after the noun.  Adjectives agree in number and gender with the noun they describe. The serious boy = el chico serio The serious girl = la chica seria The serious boys = los chicos serios The serious girls = las chicas serias

 Adjectives that end in –e match both genders. el maestro inteligente la maestra inteligente  Many adjectives that end in consonant match both genders. el amigo joven la amiga joven

 Some adjectives that end in a consonant add –a to form the feminine singular. Theses exceptions must be memorized. el chico trabajador la chica trabajadora  To make an adjective plural: add –s if it ends in a vowel add –es if it ends in a consonant. las chicas trabajadoras los chicos trabajadores
