 Continuing: action(s) in progress in the past  Written in the imperfect tense.  Interrupting: action(s) that interrupt the action in progress  Written in the preterite tense.  Continuing and interrupting actions are usually separated by the word cuando (when).  The word mientras (while) can also be used to indicate a continuing action.
