Inferences (predictions/drawing conclusions/generalizations) Beyond the words on the page

When reading, use information from the text and what you know to make inferences. That means that you go beyond the authors words to understand what is not said in the text.

When you make inferences, you make predictions and draw conclusions. To do this you think of logical outcomes (now or in the future). It is always important to give evidence or tell what information in the text helped you.

Ok. So the weather man comes on TV and says that the high for today will be 35 degrees. What can you tell about that statement?

Its your turn… Lets make some inferences by reading the following stories. –An Unusual Writer and Illustrator: Dr. Seuss –Water a Necessity of Life –The Story of the Calendar Vamos a practicar haciendo inferecias con las estas historias. –An Unusual Writer and Illustrator: Dr. Seuss –Water a Necessity of Life –The Story of the Calendar

Drawing Conclusions Drawing Conclusions-take information from the text and come to a new understanding.

Predictions Predictions-take information from the text and what you know to make a smart guess about what might happen in the future.
